Biography
This is an unusual and exciting duo consisting of cello and
classical guitarist. They are available for weddings and functions.
Simon and Nick, both graduates of the Birmingham Conservatoire, perform a wide variety of music including arrangements from the standard repertoire and also more challenging pieces written especially for the combination.
Both performers compose and arrange for the group and have a keen interest in presenting their music to a wide audience in a variety of situations.
The music is drawn from contemporary Brazilian and Spanish cultures as well as from the repertoire of the Renaissance through to Romantic periods. The modern pieces often explore the individual timbre?s of the instruments, which when combined, create a captivating and dynamic sound.
Since graduating from the Birmingham Conservatoire Nick has combined teaching, performing and composing. He works as a teacher for the Birmingham Music Service and performs regularly. He has played in the Birmingham Philharmonic Orchestra and had session recordings played on BBC television. Nick also runs his own publishing company, where he writes and publishes guitar tuition books, guitar composition and study material.
Simon plays with the London Virtuosi and the City of Canterbury Orchestra. His other chamber ensembles include The Helicon Ensemble and a cello and piano duo. He has studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Scuola di Alto Perfezzionamento di Saluzzo. His teachers have included Elizabeth Wilson and Michal Kaznowski.
