Biography
This Cardff based String Quartet will provide music of a professional standard for your wedding, dinner party or corporate function. The quartet uses musicians of the highest quality, its players being principally music graduates from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, young and seasoned professionals from the Cardiff area, most of whom have had experience of playing in professional orchestras. This String Quartet affords you access to some of the most talented up and coming young musicians in the country.
They can provide a varied repertoire of elegant and stylish background music for all occasions. The quartet's repertoire includes many of the great Classical quartets by composers such as Mozart and Haydn, as well as popular classics from Delibes, Handel, Elgar, Bach, Pachelbel and Saint-Saens. If you require a more light-hearted programme, they can play Tunes from the Shows, Ragtime, Jazz, Swing and arrangements of modern pop songs. For a small charge, they are also happy to provide arrangements of your special requests. The quartet can also offer formal recitals and concerts.
The quartet regularly works throughout South Wales, including the areas of Bridgend, Vale of Glamorgan, Caerphilly, Newport, Cardiff, Neath, Port Talbot, Swansea, Rhondda and Powys. The group can also offer their services as a String Trio or Duo - please ask for details.
Having played at hundreds of weddings and functions, their experience allows them to know what makes the quintessential musical accompaniment to your special day.
Their repertoire includes classical and romantic music, as well as more popular jazz, swing, ragtime, modern and tunes from the shows.
The quartet's past performances have included wedding ceremonies, receptions, after-dinner dancing, anniversary parties and ceremonial military dinners at venues in and around Cardiff, from Cardiff Castle to the Wales Millennium Centre and St David’s Hall.
Biographies
This String Quartet offer an interchangeable line-up comprising the following musicians.
Michelle was born in 1975 and began studying the violin when she was seven, her principal teachers being Joan Schmeising of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Richard White of Bath Baroque. During 1989 Michelle joined the Southampton Youth Orchestra and had the opportunity to tour extensively abroad, as well as perform in the major London concert halls. In 1994 she moved to Bath to study for a degree at Bath College of Higher Education. Since then she has performed regularly with a variety of ensembles in Bath and Bristol, including Bath Baroque and Bath Philharmonic and in 1998 she founded the Bath String Quartet, a group which provides music for weddings and other events. Michelle has built a successful career as a professional violin teacher and performer, and often gives recitals as a member of the Bath Recital Quartet. She is director of the music management company ABK Music Solutions, which focuses on promoting musicians and providing professional string quartets across the South-West of England and South Wales. Michelle has studied at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is continuing violin lessons with John Stein leader of the Welsh National Opera (WNO) and viola with Martin Humbey of the English Chamber Orchestra.
Sarah graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD) in July 2005, having performed extensively throughout Wales and England during this time. Upon leaving she was awarded the Peter Esswood Prize for Strings. Whilst studying she was a finalist in the prestigious Cavatina Chamber Music competition, which resulted in performing recitals as a quartet at the new Welsh Millennium Centre. Since leaving college she has performed with several freelance quartets, orchestras and bands for a wide variety of occasions, as well as playing for the backing band of McFly, Hayley Westernra and Katherine J
